Investment insurance

Since midyear of 2002, the State Undertaking „Insurance of Deposits and Investments“ started to insure the liabilities to investors of financial institutions. At this moment Lithuanian deposits and liabilities to investor’s insurance scheme is harmonized with European Union legal basis and is in accordance with the main provisions of deposit insurance schemes of European Union countries.
 Lithuanian liabilities to investors insurance scheme insures liabilities to investors holding with banks, financial brokerage companies and management companies with the right of providing financial services to guarantee the safety of investor’s funds and securities if bank, financial brokerage company or management company is not able to meet its liabilities to investors and if investor’s securities and/or funds were used without consulting the investor. 
Insurance contributions compulsory paid by banks to Deposit Insurance Fund and insurance contributions compulsory paid by financial brokerage companies management companies with the right of providing financial services to Liabilities to Investors Insurance Fund is used for paying insurance compensations to the investors.
